お家改装、ワークショップがやっと完成。House renovation. My workshop's finally done.

秋も深まり、ただいま気温１３度でメトロバンクーバーらしく雨がしとしと。温かい部屋の中ではこういうのも良い感じです。さて、

As fall deepens, the rain has started falling in Metro Vancouver. The temperature here is now 13ºC. 

I don't hate it when I can stay in a warm room. It's kind of romantic, isn't it? 

随分前にほぼ出来上がってはいた私の仕事部屋。でも収納力が全く足りていなくて．．．

Renovation of my studio was basically, kind of done to use for a while ago, but I had not enough storages there. 

夫に頼んで棚を作り付けてもらいました。

So my husband built shelves in the room. 

全部白く塗って、

I painted them all in white...

こうなりました。完成！まだきちんとオーガナイズされていませんが、とっても居心地がよくなりました。仕事しやすいです。ここで沢山ユニークな物を作りたいと思います。と言う事で、重い腰を上げて大きな絵を描き始めますか．．．

And they became like this. I still need to organize things on the shelves better but it's already much more factional. I going to make a lot of nice and unique things in here from now! Well, I should finally start painting a big canvas very soon (postponed it for long time). 

これも夫が作ってくれました。彼の技量には本当に感心させられます。

This one also made by my husband. I'm always impressed by his handiness.

コーヒーカップやっと買いました。自分たち様の普段使いしか無かったので、ケストがあるとちょっと困っていました。４個セット。これでもう大丈夫なのでお茶を飲みにきてくださ〜い（笑）

We have finally gotten 4 sets of coffee cups. We had only a couple of our own daily use ones so It was a bit problem when we had guests. Now you can come visit us for tea! lol. 

この方は先日行ったインテリア雑貨屋さんにいました。連れて帰っては来なかったけど、なかなか味のあるお顔。

I just saw him in a fashionable Knick Knack shop. I didn't get him but I found him as...hmm...tasteful face? lol.

感謝祭の連休、クランベリーフェスティバルとディナー。Thanksgivng long weekend and Cranberry festival and dinner.

早いもので、先週末は感謝祭の3連休でした。カナダはアメリカより北なので、収穫時期も早いせいで感謝祭も一ヶ月程早いのです。でも映画などの影響か、感謝祭が終わるとすぐクリスマスが来て１年が終わる感じが少ししてしまうのは否めません。

It was a thanksgiving long weekend. Canada is located north of USA so our harvest is a bit earlier. That's why our thanksgiving day comes a month earlier than USA. However, as a Japanese, maybe it's influenced by Hollywood movies or so, I can't deny that I'm feeling like that Christmas is coming soon and the year is ending! lol. Not really thaw soon though...

２０１２年にバンクーバーダウンタウンから隣町のサレーに引っ越して以来、ほぼ毎年楽しみにしていたクランベリーフェスティバル。今年は初めてこの町の住人として参加です。駐車場を探す苦労が無くなった事が何より嬉しい！（笑）

And it was an annual cranberry festival happened in here in Fort Langley. Since I moved to Surrey, next city, from Vancouver downtown in 2012, I looked forward of it almost every year. It was a first time to go to the festival as the villagers in this year.  The most excited thing was that we didn't have to find a parking space anymore! lol. 

と言う事で、フェスティバルが始まるより早く８時からサーブされる、恒例のクランベリーソーセージとパンケーキの朝ご飯を、起きてすぐ、夫が飛び出して行って買ってきました。地元ならではの技だな。

So my husband jumped out of the house as soon as he got up before the festival started because of the pancake breakfast. It was served from 8 while the festival started at 10. He came back with two sets of Cranberry sausage and pancake plates, and that was the privilege of the villagers. 

１０時のファスティバル開始の時間に友人かやって来て、一緒にフェスティバルサイトへ。

すでに賑わっていました。

The same time of the festival starting our friends came over and went there together. It was already bustled with people. 

フードトラックの集る通りも大混雑。

The street for food trucks was also packed!

伝統のバグパイプ隊。あの音色は秋の空気になせかシックリ来ると思います。

There was a bagpipe team there as a tradition. I thought that the sound of bagpipe was so suitable for the fall air. 

フェイスペイントのコーナー。いつかこのボランティアをしてみようかな。

Face painting corner. I would be a volunteer for it sometime...

感謝祭らしくカボチャだらけ。

It was pumpkins everywhere!

お花も秋らしいですね。

The flowers were also so autumn-ish. 

とってもカナダらしいモチーフが一杯のメタルオブジェのお店。

This vender provide metal objects with very Canadian motifs. 

色々なフルーツで作られたジャムのお店。混雑しているのであまり良い写真が撮れませんでしたが、他にも素敵なお店が沢山出ていました。

Jams and Jellies made of many kinds of fruits. There were many other attractive venders but I couldn't take good pictures because they were so busy. 

フェスティバルサイトから１ブロックの所で、毎週恒例のファーマーズマーケットもいつも通りに開かれていたので、翌日の家族のサンクスギビングディナー様にワインや野菜を買い出しに。枝付きの芽キャベツを初めて買ってみました。

The farmer's market was also held as well at a block away from the festival site. We went there to get some veggies and a wine for our family thanksgiving dinner next night. Then I bought a bunch of brussels sprouts first time. 

翌夜の家族ディナーは弟の家で。弟嫁と相談して、ま、日本人家族だし（家の夫だけ非日本人、笑）ターキーはいらないか、と言う事になり。だって調理に手間がかかる割には飛び上がる程美味しい訳でもなく、翌日からは手を替え品を替え、延々と続くターキーの残り物ご飯になるのでね。でもせっかくの伝統だし、と言う事で、私は野菜のキャセロールをフェスティバルで仕入れたクランベリー入りターキーソーセージとリンゴ入りポークのソーセージをたっぷり入れて作りました。写真を撮らなかったけど、デザートのカボチャのプリンも担当。

Our dinner next night was at my brother's. His wife and I discussed menu beforehand and then decided not to have turkey. We are Japanese family, well, except my husband, and turkey takes time to cook but not our number one favourite though. However, I still thought of something very thanksgiving so I included turkey and cranberry sausages and apple pork sausages into my veggie casserole.  I also made a pumpkin pudding but I forgot to take a picture of it.

色鮮やかです。１０種類程の野菜と２種類のソーセージをギューギューに詰め込んで、オリーブオイル、塩こしょう、ローズマリーを乗せて焼くだけ。

It was so colourful. 10 kinds of vegetable and 2 kinds of sausages were crowded into the casserole and put some fresh rosemary on top, sprinkled some salt and pepper, and drizzled some olive oil then baked. Easy! 

焼き上がりはこんな。Done baking. 

義理妹が用意してくれた前菜と、シャケのテリーヌ。彼女の畑から取れ立ての新鮮なサラダも。母はお漬け物とかカボチャとあずきの煮物という純和風の物を持参（笑）。最後に弟がシンプルかつとても美味しいエビのトマトソーススパゲッティーを作ってくれて、大満足なディナーでした。今年も家族と温かく美味しい物を頂けた事を当たり前の事と思わず心から感謝したいと思いました。

My sister-in-law prepared some appetizers and salmon terrine. She also cooked salad with her garden vegetable and then my brother cooked tomato sauce and prawn spaghetti at last. My mom brought some Japanese pickles and Japanese pumpkin dish. Everything was so good! 

I really appreciate that we had nice family dinner on thanksgiving day in this year again. I don't take it for granted. I'm so thankful.

秋（冬）のための手作りとデコレーション。Some hand-mades and decorations for the season.

毎年秋が来ると編み物がしたくなります。それに足が冷えるので、今年ははじめてブーツ型の部屋履きを作りました。

It's a kind of my seasonal / annual project of crochet. My feet get cold lately so I made boots style slippers then.

履くとこんな感じ。とても温かいです。

Like this. They are warm. 

次の月曜日はもう感謝祭。そしてハロウィーンと続く季節、かぼちゃが必要！（笑）。天然の白やブルーのかぼちゃ（そんなのあるんですよ）の形やサイズが完璧な物が見つからなかったので、オレンジのを買ってアクリル絵の具で塗っちゃいました。カボチャの下は拾って来た葉っぱや木の実など。

This coming Monday is already thanksgiving! And it's followed by halloween, so I needed some pumpkins!! I wanted some blue and white ones naturally (They are actually exist) but I couldn't find right size and light colour both together. So...I painted them with acrylic paint. Under pumpkins are some leaves and nuts that I found outside. 

去年のクリスマスにお友達が日本からわざわざ手作りのリースを送ってくれて、今年また新しいお家に飾るのを楽しみにしてたんです。色がなんともシックで秋にもピッタリと言う事で、感謝祭から飾る事に。フレンチカントリーのお家のまねしてキッチンのレンジフードに飾りたかったのですが、リースは思った通りにピッタリ、シックリ。

At last Christmas, my dear friend made this beautiful wreath and sent it to me all the way from Japan. I was looking forward to display it again in this year in our new house. The colour scheme of it is chic and perfect in fall too so I didn't have to wait till Christmas. I pictured French country style and wanted to put it on to the range food in the kitchen. The wreath was perfectly fit on it as the way I pictured but...

でもその下のバックスプラシュに飾ってあるサインボードは夏に作ったので、なんだかしっくりきません。そこで秋用を作る事にしました。

The sign board that I made in summer is no longer fit in the seasonal atmosphere. So I decided to make new one for the season. 

夫に頼んで廃材でパネルを作ってもらい、秋（サンクスギビング）にちなんだ言葉をえらび、マスキングテープを貼った上に転写して切りぬき、上から白のアクリル絵の具をドライブラシで軽く塗りました。

I asked my husband to make a wood panel with reclaimed wood. And put masking tapes on it and cut them out as letters. Lightly painted white acrylic paint with a dry brush over the musing taps.

そして、これは秋でもなんでもないじゃないか！という話しなんですが、まぁ食欲の秋と言う事で、ケーキの絵を描きました。いや、ただケーキの絵が描きたくてしょうがなかったってだけなんですがね。

And I also painted a image of a cake. Well, a cake is nothing with Autumn but you know, Autumn makes you hungry?? lol. I just wanted to paint a cake badly. 

すべての色が乗せ終わったら、最初に貼った文字部分のマスキングテープを剥がしました。

After I applied all pigments, then finally peeled masking tapes and exposed bare wood surface as letters.

出来上がり。自分としては少しは秋らしくなったと思うんですが（笑）。

Here it is. I personally think that it is really autumn-ish. lol. 

お友達作のリースとの相性は良いようです。

Anyways, the chemistry between the beautiful wreath and my painted board isn't bad, is it?

これは昨日の夕方、雨が雨が降り始める前のフレイザーリバー、夕方６時頃。空がとっても不思議で、川もには霧が立ちこめていました。ああ、冬が始まるんだ。

This photo of Fraser river was taken last evening around 6. The sky was pretty yet mysterious, and the fog hovered over the surface of the river. Ah, the winter is coming.

そして先ほど。明日のクランベリーフェスティバルのために大量のクランベリーが運び込まれていました。明日は嵐になる天気予報なようですが、なんとかなるといいなぁ。

さぁ、感謝祭３連休の始まりです。良い週末を！

And this late afternoon. I saw that those big amount of cranberries were carried into the village for the cranberry festival tomorrow. I heard that the weather would be stormy tomorrow but hope it would be okay somehow. long weekend is begging. Happy thanksgiving!

お家改装、小物編３、キッチンアイランド。秋の風景。Kitchen Island. Autum scenery

昨日のフレイザーリバー。どんよりと曇り空ですが、これぞメトロバンクーバーのお天気（笑）。秋ですね〜。こういう景色、嫌いじゃないです。近所のスーパーへ買い物のついでに久しぶりに近所の写真を撮りました。

It's  Fraser river yesterday. It was cloudy and it was definitely the MetroVancouver Autumn weather. lol. Yeah, it's Autumn! I don't hate this kind of weather with beautiful shades of grey. So I took some pics on the way to go the nearby super market. 

一人川もを見つめてたたずむ人も絵になりますね。

A scene that a women quietly watching the river looked picturesque.

素敵なお家。この町にはこういうのが沢山あるんです。憧れちゃいます。

And there are a lot of such pretty old houses in my neighbourhood. Ah I admire them!

さて、こんな豪華なお家は一生手に入らなくても、私達の小さなお城は少しづつ進化してます。キンチンアイランドのカウンタートップをここで食事が出来る様に大きくしました。

Well, even though those pretty big houses are not affordable for us, our tiny house is still nice and getting better. This time my husband made a new counter top for our small kitchen island to make it breakfast bar. 

イケヤのバーゲンでとても安く買った小さなアイランド。ダイニングルームの無い私達の家では、ここが食卓。でも小さいし、足を入れるスペースもありませんでした。

We bought it at IKEA in good cheap price. Since we have no dinning room this had to be our dinning table which had no space to stick our legs under the counter. 

例によって、夫が頑張って新しい天板を仕上げて取り替えてくれました。

My husband did a good job again! Here we can have our meals comfortably now. 

このアイランド、結構収納力があって便利なんです。大きな天板が付いてさらに機能的に。

This island is small but actually capable to contain big amount and now it's even more functional. 

この板はバンクーバーアイランド近くのThetisアイランドに住む夫の従兄弟が数年前に、自分の土地から切り出した生木を板状にカットしてくれたものを加工しました。

The slab was kindly donated by my husband cousin who cut out of it from his property in Thetis island few years ago. My husband dried it and processed it...

サイドは木の一番外側の皮を剥いだだけの、そのままの形を生かしました。

with remaining live edge. 

これが元のイケヤ製ブッチャーブロックの天板。薄いんです。

これで部屋全体んぼ雰囲気も随分良くなったと思います。

This is original countertop from IKEA. It's much better now! It make even entire kitchen atmosphere bit more high end. Love it!

フォートラングレーの新しいレストラン。月。New restaurant in Fort Langley. Moon.

先週のお話になります。

長らく工事中で、開くのを楽しみにしていたお店がオープンしていたので早速行ってきました。Mangia a Scappa というイタリアンレストランです。以前、同じフォートラングレーのダウンタウンに小さなイタリアングロサリーを開いていたのですが、今回は同じ町の中の違うロケーションに大きなイタリアンカフェ／レストランとして新装開店。

It was in last week. 

We found the restaurant, where we were looking for their opening for a while, was already open so we went there for dinner.  It's called Mangia a Scappa. They had a small Italian grocery shop in the same town before but this time they open as much bigger Italian cafe/restaurant in the different location of the same town, Fort Langley. 

まだオープンしていないのですが、カフェの左側はイタリアングロサリー（スーパーマーケット）になるようです。

It's not open yet but the left side of the cafe part will be a Italian grocery shop. 

ピッサは本格的な薪ストーブで焼いていて、お味に期待が！（自分の写真はピンボケだったので、サイトからお借りしちゃいました。）

Their pizza was baked in the wooden stove, so we expected it a lot. (A photo I took was a bit out of focus so I borrowed this from their site)

そして私達のオーダーは生ハムとルッコラとパルメザンチーズのピッツァ。シンプルですが、いわゆる北米のピッツァとは違ってもちもちと腰があるクラストの本格派。とっても美味しかったです。他にも沢山種類がありましたよ。

Our order was a prosciutto, arugula and parmesan cheese pizza. It was simple yet very genuine taste and we enjoyed it so much. There were many more different choices of pizzas on the menu. 

パスタは日替わりの要で、３種類を口頭で告げられ、その中からイラリアンソーセージのトマトソースフェットフィーネをオーダー。こちらもシンプルかつ味わいの深い本格的な味。これからメニューも増えるようで、とても楽しみなお店です。

And one more. Our server told as 3 kinds of past of the day so we picked Italian sausage tomato sauce fettuccine. This one was also so simple but genuine taste. We were very satisfied. It seems like they will produce more menu other than pizza soon. This restaurant will be potential.

さて、旅行記を書いていたので、書きそびれていたスーパームーンの事。

９月終りの満月は地球にもっとも近づくスーパームーンで、しかも月食。そうじゃなくても月の写真を撮るのがが好きな夫は大喜びでした。

Well, I could't write about this on time because I was writing about the trip so... here is about the super moon in last week. The distance between the moon and the earth was the closest at the moment of the full moon in this time and also total luna eclipse happened the same time. 

これはその２日前、金曜日の月。大きく明るい月が雲の合間から照っているのはなかなか素敵でした。

This one was 2 days before from full moon on Friday. It was already so big and bright, and shining  through the cloud was pretty. 

そしてこれが翌日の土曜日の月。日没よりも早く登った月がピンクの空に浮かんでいた奇麗でした。

Saturday was like this.  The moon rose before suns so the big moon was floating in the pick sky.

そしてこれが日曜日の満月のスーパームーン。小高い丘の上に月が昇る時間に行ったらすでに沢山の人が集まっていてびっくり。ただこの日は空がほんやり霞んでいたので、しばら登ってからやっと位置が分かる程度。周りの景色と一緒に登り立ての巨大な月の写真を撮りたかった私達はちょっとがっかり。あきらめて家に帰り、もっと空が暗くなり、月が高く登って、やっとはっきりした写真がとれました。これがいわゆる真っ赤なブラッドムーンです。

And this was on Sunday, the night of full moon with eclipse. When we went to the hill on time of the moon rise there were already a bunch of people there waiting for the moon rise. We wanted to take a picture of the huge moon just above the far forest, low in the east sky. However, the sky was hazy so we could't recognize it for a while. When it became barely visible, it was already high like 2 pictures above. So we gave up on it once and went back to home. We took some pictures after the sky became dark enough and the moon rose high enough to see from our yard. Here is the blood moon. 

 

そして月食。And eclipse.

次にスーパームーンの月食が見られるのは１８年後の様ですね。

Next time we can watch the super moon eclipse would be 18 years later.
